Completing the Report

 The Completed Report

Forms A-E, the Quickstart Checklist, printouts from online searches, and any other reports can simply be stapled together. Background check companies send a nicely formatted report summary and retain the original documents but this extra step isn’t necessary for small businesses and nonprofit groups.

After the report is complete, go through everything with a big red pen, looking for and marking any discrepancies. Sometimes, the differences are simply explained, such as records indicating a name from a previous marriage. Other times, you may notice a pattern of deception that indicates your applicant hasn’t been honest. It’s good policy to have someone else look over the results, bringing a set of fresh eyes into the equation. This doubles your opportunities to pick up on any red flags.

Once the report is finished, someone decides if the applicant will be:

  • § Accepted
  • § Accepted with reservations (such as a probationary period)
  • § Rejected
