My point of view is quite limited.

We live in an area with steady, but minimal housing appreciation that missed out on any real estate boom. As far as we were concerned, the Great Real Estate Bubble was just a bedtime story from Faraway, concocted to frighten little real estate investors into running their numbers properly.

A quick perusal of today’s paper lists several 2 bedroom houses for 50K … horribly over-priced little trashboxes that won’t  sell anytime soon. People who understand such things say high Texas property taxes combined with insurance premiums as ferocious as the last hurricane combine to keep things status quo.

 When we decided to invest in real estate, we heard the same thing every other investor hears:

You can’t make money in this market.

Its a bad time to buy.  

So we bought anyway.

Mr. Brz works a day job that keeps us in cell phones and insurance premiums. His Lovely Wife, Mrs. Brz, runs the rental business from the fully tax deductible office at home and heads up aquisitions, accounting, marketing and landlording.  (Before anyone gets too excited, Mr. Brz has not taken up polygamy in his spare time– Mrs. Brz refers to herself in the 3rd person occassionally… a recurring tic the little Brz’s find most annoying.)

The majority of real estate books and websites don’t apply to our situation–a common complaint, I know. We have a well-defined goal of aquiring 20 single family homes with half mortgage-free by the time Mr. Brz retires and takes over the empire. He’s looking forward to the day when he can buy and rehab houses with great abandon, whilest toodling about in his pickup full of power tools and gorilla ladders.

I’m continually sifting through the tons of available material looking for the ideas that will make us money. Here, you’ll find articles of all sorts related to real estate, rehabbing, restoration, home business/office management, and landlording. Before real estate, I started and ran a background check company which took way too much time and made way too little profit. It did, however, yield a ton of useful info that I plan to upload here including a background check manual for download.
